June 16, 2012: Bloomsday in Dublin
Lauren Leto and I are doing something crazy and we want you to join us.
The Plan:
1) Read Ulysses, by James Joyce

All thousand-something Modernist, difficult-to-get-through pages of it.
2) Meet Occasionally Over the Next Three Months to Discuss It
Over coffee? Over Guinness?

Over Guinness.
3) Finish the book, and go to Dublin to celebrate Bloomsday!!!

Bloomsday is a commemoration and celebration of the life of Irish writer James Joyce during which the events of his novel Ulysses (which is set on 16 June 1904) are relived. It is observed annually on 16 June in Dublin and elsewhere.
If you live in New York City, and think this would be fun, you should definitely join us! It’s relatively low-time commitment, except, of course, for reading the damn thing. Probably the most jetsetting book club you’ll ever join!
Email me if you’re interested!
*It’s okay if you miss a meeting or can’t come to Dublin. Feel free to read along with us, anyway! First meeting is on March 12th at Dorian Gray.
